Speyside and a chance to try the Sunncamp Verao Awning

Night No.47 of 2023 for living in the caravan, and we're pitched up at the Speyside by Craigellachie C&CC Campsite just outside the village of Archiestown. This was a short notice 'spur of the moment' trip not too far from home, around a 2hr drive. The C&CC have some very good deals available at some of the sites, including this one, where a 35% discount could be had by staying a minimum of 3 night! For myself, the van and the 2 dogs, on a grass pitch, including electricity was around £34! Fantastic! Headed north along the Aberdeen bypass, then followed the A96 as far as Huntly. Stopped in Asda and then parked up and took the dogs a good walk in Bin Forest, just outside Huntly. A great walk, and one I've done many times. It's a great stop when heading North in the Inverness direction. The Forest has extensive storm damage from last year, but the main tracks are clear and offer some quality walking. One of the objectives of this trip was to try out an awnin...

Speyside, Sep 22

This is a record of my most recent trip in my caravan, a jaunt north west from home to a site just outside the small village of Archiestown in Speyside. The site I stayed is a Camping and Caravanning Club site which a named 'Speyside by Craigellachie'. Craigellachie is the nearest 'significant' town near the site. I've been on this site many times, most recently in June this year. The site was very quiet, I'd say even quieter than normal. A few sites I've been to this year have been quiet, possibly fuel cost? Or people taking the opportunity to travel abroad? Or maybe the cost of living? Interestingly, there was a camper in a very small 1 or 2 man tent near the site entrance. This camper and tent has been here since I was last here in June! It was obvious by the grass that he had moved his tiny tent a few times in the same area, probably to protect the grass. A very committed camper indeed! The weather was mixed. When dry, it was lovely, but it did rain mos...

Speyside by Craigellachie

This blog is about my most recent trip, from 18th 'til the 21st June 2022, taking my tally for nights in the van this year to 35 so far. This was really a 'spur of the moment' trip. I had been browsing online the night before this trip, looking at both Clubs of which I'm a member, the Caravan and Motorhome, and the Camping and Caravanning Clubs. The C&CC Site in Speyside, known as 'Speyside by Craigellachie' had pitches available over the next while which, usually for these times, offered some real value for money. As it was forecast to be bright, I selected a non-electric (I have solar) grass pitch, which totalled around £25 for 3 nights. Fantastic! My fine, quiet pitch. The site itself is formed on an old WW2 POW camp and there is still evidence of it's former use, such as the shadows of the bases of the nissen huts which once housed the prisoners. The toilet block was once the ablutions block for the prisoners, and although refitted and upgraded, it...
