Pitrennie Mill

Image
This is night No.59/2019 living in my caravan. The dogs and I are pitched at Pitrennie Mill, a farm CL near Fordoun. Embarrassingly close to home (!), but a really nice little site which I've passed hundreds of times on the Auchenblae to Fettercairn road. The gardener was coming round to do weedkilling, and as I had to get the dogs away for a few hours after treatment, I decided to pack a nights kit, a sleeping bag, hitch up the van, and go away for the night. Probably took me 15mins to get here! Great!! Also gave me the chance to pitch my new awning, a surprisingly cheap awning designed for a camper van, but ideal for my van. I'd read online about others recommending it for Eriba caravans. A very versatile piece of kit which took me about 10mins to erect. Plenty room to stand up too, and it has curtains. This will also be my shower room!! Great little site around a 2 min drive from Finella Forest and about 10 mins from Drumtochty. Very happy here, and lik...

Foulden and Chirnside

This is night No.38/2019 living in my caravan. This is my 3rd night at Foulden Hagg CL, near Berwick Upon Tweed. Woke to a fine day. It had been showery last night, but as forecast, the sun came out. Took the dogs for a run around the fields before breakfast. After a shower (!), I decided that I'd get some odds and ends at Chirnside, a village around 3 miles away which has a co-op. The route takes me through farms, woods, fields, and a bit of road walking. On the way, you really notice some of the fantastic specimens of trees. The track as it approaches Edingtonhill. Clouds were bubbling up, but it was quite warm. Parts of the track are a tad overgrown, but great for spaniels. Reached Chirnside in around 90 mins. Took a picture of an old 2CV in a garage. Becoming a real rarity! Got some shopping, then noticed on the bus stop that a bus would be hear in 10mins which went past Foulden, so that was the plan. A Jim Clark Memorial. Didn't know ...

Davochfin Farm

This is night No.67/2018 living in my caravan. Now at Davochfin Farm CL, near Dornoch. A great CL, 2 nights with power for £20. Woke this morning around 0600 to a fantastic sunrise and hardly a breath of wind. The previous evening had been blowing a full force gale and it was nice to be still for a change. There was no-one around as we got ready to head to the beach for a morning walk. The only thing I could see were rabbits grazing around the site. It placed these two on red alert! The walk along the beach was fine, but I was conscious that the herd of cattle on the golf course were fairly close to the path I take to cross the fairways, so had to keep my eyes open. Sheep too, very close nearer the beach. Uneventful though, and we soon headed back to the van for breakfast. It was a fine morning and instead of risking a cattle encounter, we headed 5 mins along into the town down to the West Beach. Great warm walk with the dogs. It is possible to walk all the way to Go...
