Around Culloden

Image
This is night No 54/2018 staying in my caravan. It's my second night at the Culloden Moor C&MC Site near Inverness. Got up at an incredibly late time of 0730! Walked the dogs around the nearby forest, with access straight from the site, and after breakfast took the dogs to the forest in Culloden Village. An excellent walk past a 'Clootie Well' and a few Culloden related landmarks. It starts in dense forest, then onto more open cleared land. Good views over to the hills across the Moray Firth. Always fascinated by this tree, bang in the middle of the entrance to a bridge over the railway. A massive boulder has either been placed on it's root, or has been lifted by the tree itself. After returning to the car, headed into Inverness to visit the outdoor superstore 'Go Outdoors'. I renewed my membership card (£5) and picked up a few items. Pink fluid for the flush tank in the van, a collapsible bucket, and a 12V portable shower for use...

Fraserburgh to Culloden

This is night No.53/2018 staying in my caravan. I'm now at Culloden Moor C&MC Site near Inverness. 2 nights for £29 for me, the van, and the mutts (free). I had been 3 nights away without 'services' on a CL, and I needed to catch up on laundry and get a shower. Culloden is the nearest C&MC Site, there aren't really a lot of choices between Fraserburgh and here. Gives me a chance to add a plaque to the collection! Last night was quite busy. The farmer drove across to me around 1900 and asked if I wanted to come over to his other shed and see more of his tractor collection. Absolutely fascinating. A mint grey fergie, absolutely unmarked. An equally stunning Fordson. This was a rarer and older Fordson. I think it was 1934, it was in a trailer having been to a show. An unusual green colour. The workshop is the ultimate 'man cave'. I finally got back to my van at around 2230! What a great way to spend an evening. This morning af...

Culloden Moor (caravan site, not battleground)

This is Night No 5 away in my van this year. Staying at Culloden Moor C&MC Site, a few miles east of Inverness. 2 nights for me, the van and the mutts (free) for £35.40. Ive been here a few times in the past but always in a campervan. I've always found this site to be a great journey breaker, as it really is ideal for heading in any direction. Great for going north or west and fairly close to the A9 and the A96. Also means there's not a huge drive to wherever I go next. The weather today was as forecast when I got up around 0630. Wet, sleet, and pretty nippy. Headed down again to the Dee, heading east. After breakfast and a shower, I started packing up to go. The rain was easing and it really only takes me about 10mins! Took the dogs one last walk, then left to head here. It was heavy sleety showers most of the way. The roads were good apart from the road as you enter Elgin. The gas board are installing a pipe which will take until May to finish and the q...
