First night away in 2025

Image
Thursday, the 20th of March 2025 was the first day of touring for the 2025 Season. I originally planned to start on the 21st, but with the great weather (and the prospect of a longer drive with no stop), I booked a night at a CL just outside Nairn in the Highlands. I've stayed here a few times before, Allanaha Farm . I'm lucky enough to own two caravans. In addition to my regular Eriba Triton, I also bought a Hymer Nova 390 SL which I bought last August mainly for using on Seasonal Pitches. I used it on a Seasonal Pitch last winter in Melrose, and I am planning an autumn pitch this year in Fife. Unlike the Eriba, it is more suited to longer stays with it's headroom, heating system and hot water. The pop top design of the Eriba would also not be ideal for wet winter use. In order to keep the van in good running order and to make sure everything functions I decided that for stays of seven nights or longer in one place, I'd take the Hymer, and for Touring, I'd take t...

Garlieston, April 2024

Image
I visited Garlieston C&MC Site for 5 nights in April 2024. I really enjoy this site, it's sea side location, and the opportunities for exploring the fantastin surrounding area. For 2024, this takes my nights count living in the van to 12. The site itself is on the site of a former harbour, used for the shipping of timber from the surrounding forests. Dumfries and Galloway have massive plantations. The site is split in two, the harbourside and the walled garden. I prefer the shelter and quietness of the walled garden, and above, my van is almost bang in the centre of the picture above. The site is also located across a burn from a different, private site, Garlieston Lodge. Garlieston Village, famous for also being the place where nearby the Mulberry Harbours used during D Day were designed and tested. A really nice seafront, a good pub, and a great beach for walking the dogs. Looking across the water to the distant hills of Cumbria. Visited some nice places. This was Glasserto...

First Tour of the 2024 Season

Image
The van had been under it's cover since the end of last years touring. It was a long and wet winter, but I used the opportunity to book a few sites for 2024, taking advantage of some of the Spring Offers, and the discounts which both the C&MC and the C&CC Clubs were offering. This trip was for a total of 7 nights, 3 nights at Culloden Moor C&MC Site and 4 nights at the Morvich C&MC Site. With the Aberdeen By-Pass now open, I much prefer to take the A96 north to the Highlands instead of the west route through Crianlarich.  Another benefit of the north route is the opportunities for dog walking on the way. We stopped just across the road from the Chivas Regal Whisky Bond just outside Keith. There's a fine woodland to let the dogs have a run around. Culloden looked great. Spotlessly clean, and the pitches all freshly raked. A new couple of Site Managers this season. The site dog walk is a gate leading into the extensive Culloden Woods. Great walking for the dogs...
