Urquhart to Dornoch

Image
This is night No.48/2019 living in my caravan. Now pitched at Davochfin Farm, a CL near Dornoch. Had an excellent stay at 'The Bungalow' near Urquhart. It is a great location for breaking the trip further north and offers some great walking in it's own backyard. The coast is only a short distance away, and being Moray, this is 'big forest' country. After getting a clean up and feeding the dogs, we took the 5 min drive to Loch na Bo. It is a lovely circular walk amongst mature trees and a number of lochs.  It is a very well kept area and has a few way marked routes. The one we followed took around an hour. Been here before, but it's definitely a favourite. The weather was stunning as we packed and headed away about 1100 for the 2 hour drive. I had only booked the site this morning, but it's one of my favourite CL's. Probably the best walking from a site I've even experienced. A gate from next to my van leads to Camore Wood, an...

The Bungalow

This is night No.47/2019 living in my caravan. We're now pitched at 'The Bungalow', a CL near Urquhart in Moray. I was here back in May for a couple of nights and really liked the site, the location, and the surrounding opportunities for walking the dogs. Set off around 1030 for the 2hr drive, which was fine and uneventful. It was the first time I've used my new towing jacket and it was excellent. It literally 'stuck' to the front of the van, no flapping, and the van was spotless on arrival here at The Bungalow. Its a basic site, but it does have electric hook up which is great to allow me to charge my various gadgets and provide me with hot water and heating if I need it. A family member was up in this area too, in nearby Hopeman. I thought I'd pay a surprise visit and ended up helping out with putting up the awning. These are tricky pieces of kit, but the Soplair awnings made for Eriba vans are outstanding quality and the pitching is wel...

Speyside

This is night No. 23/2019 living in my caravan. Now pitched at the Speyside C&CC Site near Archiestown in Speyside. It was a 'moving day' today. 'The Bungalow' CL was excellent. Great site and great value for money. Run by a really nice lady, and the facilities were perfect for a CL. Started the day really early, around 0530! The weather was lovely though, and I took the dogs round the adjacent woods. A fine morning. After breakfast, I took the dogs the short 4 mile drive to Garmouth for a nice walk across the Spey to Spey Bay. It's an old rail line, tarred over for pedestrians and cyclists. At the carpark is this incredible Bike Repair Station. Had loads of tools on cables, a stand, and an air pump! Fantastic!! The weather was stunning as I headed along the old line. Crossed the Spey by the absolutely stunning old viaduct, The Spey Viaduct. Great views up the Spey. Very impressive structure. A better view from the Spey Bay s...

Urquhart

This is night No.22/2019 living in my caravan. It's also my second night at 'The Bungalow', a CL near Urquhart, around 5 miles from Elgin. I was absolutely whacked last night. Must have been all the walks catching up (!), and I was in bed at about 8pm! Slept like a log, and got up quite late at around 0645. Thats thing thing about CL's, if you know there's no crowds heading for a toilet block in the morning, you definitely relax a bit more. Took the dogs around the woods over the road from the site. Looking back, The Bungalow is bit 'agricultural'. I think who ever lives here has never thrown away or got rid of anything mechanical in the last 40yrs. Caravans, tractors, implements, old cars, the whole shebang! Takes a bit longer to get ready at a CL, as everything onboard has to be used and cleaned up, so we eventually got out around 0830. I wanted to go and walk round nearby Loch na Bo. A bit of a rough and unsigned track took us to a small ...
