Dunbar continued.

This is night No 45/2018 staying in my caravan. This is my second night in Dunbar C&CC Site near Dunbar in East Lothian. Woke up to a 'pea souper' of a fog. It was quite cold when I got up at 0630. The site is unusually busy for this time of year (I thought?), but as usual, I was the only one up and about when I took the dogs for an early morning blast in the fields next to the site. Can't even see the continuous plume of pollution from the cement factory. Minded me of how Culloden must have seemed back in the day! I thought I'd be a bit more adventurous with the breakfast today. I had eggs, mushrooms, and cheese so I decided to knock up an omelette. Turned out really well, and as I expected, it was delicious. Nice with the melted Cheshire Cheese in it. I then paid a visit to the Turkish Barber in Dunbar. Good haircut too, and included the flaming cotton wad but not the head massage or boiling towel. Good value at £8 and like the on...

Eriba Kitchen Tips

Image
I've learnt a few things about kitchen logistics since living in this van. My electrical apparatus consists of a Tesco Value 2 slice toaster, same brand cordless kettle, and my Remoska. Along with the 3 ring gas hob, this seems to meet my needs entirely. As you can see above, the kettle and toaster fit under the window, of the worksurface, when not in use, and the Remoska fits in the space on the left hand side, in front of the toilet compartment. The little angled 'wall' is ideal for my cross stitch of the van and the mutts, and a handy place to mount all my site 'plaques'. Anorak or what! Tip 1: When you boil the kettle in the morning, fill you mug, then keep the remaining hot water for use throughout the day. A good flask like my Thermos, keeps it boiling all day. Tip 2: Get a flexi bucket instead of a basin. Deep enough to hold all the dishes, and handy for carrying to the dishwashing area. Also, great for carting clothes back and forward to the...

The Remoska

Image
Quick recommendation. The brilliant Remoska cooker. This Czech made appliance is great for a caravan or campervan. Versatile, simple, and fairly compact. It has one control, the on switch. I believe it heats to 190-200C. It can be used for casseroling, soups, reheating and apparently toasted sandwiches. A lot of folk think it's a slow cooker which certainly is not. It's just like a table top oven. It comprises a heat resistant stand, the pot, and the lid which contains a heating element. I've used it for heating pies and sausage rolls, and for heating ready meals like curries or pasta dishes. It is excellent. I pack it in a nylon bag when I travel, and it gets stashed in amongst the other electrical kit in the locker beneath the hob of my Eriba. Cost me £129 if I remember correctly.
