Dingwall

This blog entry is a record of my most recent trip, a 4 night stay at the Dingwall C&CC Site in the town itself. I was from the 3rd 'til the 7th July 2022 and took my tally for nights away in the van this year to 39. I've been to Dingwall a few times before in both caravans and camper vans and I've found it to be an excellent base for exploring the surrounding area. Dingwall is a bit of a crossroads between Inverness to the Highlands and to the Far North Coast. It is also on the (in)famous NC500 route and sees a lot of through traffic on the way up the East Coast or towards the West Coast. The site itself can get quite busy in the early evening with arrivals from the NC500, but is deserted as they head away the following morning. The site is near the Town Centre is is fine for an evening walk. A sort of hybrid pedestrianised/traditional Main Street with a small selection of shops. Apparently, the Beatles only attracted a crown of around 15 to this show, but they hadn...

This was a trip I recently made to the Dingwall C&CC Site, from 23rd to 26th Aug 21, which was nights 43 to 46 living in the caravan this year. It was a trip I had booked months ago taking advantage of a special offer for non-electric grass pitches. It worked out around £7 per night which I had pre paid back earlier in the year. A good choice as the solar panel was more than adequate for supplying the necessary power due to the excellent late summer weather. Dingwall is a well kept site, adjacent to Ross County's Stadium. It is also on the NC500 so can get very busy, especially this year. I was pitched side ways on a grassy area, but I had to move the van a few times to make the best attempt to avoid the bare dirt where grass had been killed by folk with awning carpets. Never understand why folk use carpets in an awning, and why the site allow it. It's ugly and involves a lot of restoration work. Nice location for walking around the town. It's a bit tired and suffers ...

This is night No.16/2019 living in my caravan. I'm now at Dingwall C&CC Site in the town of Dingwall. After much deliberation (with myself!), I decided against heading over to the Hebrides and instead headed east and a bit north to Dingwall. I've been here before, an urban site, but a great place to spend a few days. It is a fantastic base to tour the area. Got up early to a fairly grey start. After an early walk near the site, had breakfast then took the dogs back up into Ratagan Forest for a good run around. On the way back, we got soaked! Not forecast, but there were very heavy showers of rain and hail passing through. The weather improved later in the morning as we headed through Glen Shiel. Stopped near Torgoyle in Glen Moriston to make a quick coffee and let the dogs run around the forest. A nice big gravel patch where I turned the van, just off the main road. Arrived a bit early (1230) at Dingwall, so took the dogs a walk round adjoining Vi...
