Balbirnie

This is night No.31/2019 living in my caravan. Pitched at the Balbirnie Park C&MC Site in Markinch in Fife. Using this site as a bit go a stop over. I'm heading into Northumberland tomorrow and this stop breaks the journey for the dogs. Probably takes about 90 mins off the trip for them, which is good. However, this is a great site and fantastic for walking the dogs in the adjacent Balbirnie Park. Balbirnie Park is a massive area where the dogs can run wild! Another benefit of stopping here is that I can visit one of my daughters in Dunfermline, around 20 mins away. Had a walk around the park, passing the stunning Abbey on the way. An outstanding structure. The skies were a bit 'heavy', but we avoided the showers passing nearby. Pittencrieff Park has some fine areas to walk including this rather fine walled garden. The large glasshouse and the walled garden. The weather is fine this evening, and I'm hoping for a dry week. Fi...

This is night No.90/2018 living in my caravan, now pitched at Balbirnie C&MC Site near Markinch in Fife. This site is always very good value, and one night cost £12.40. That is very cheap for a C&MC site. I was last here in April when I stayed for one night, and strangely the warden woman recognised me! I must have one of those weird looking faces! It's a bit of a 'utility' stop. Beesknowe (a CL) was fine, but I needed to get some laundry done and also visit my daughter in her new flat in Dunfermline. There had been a grass frost overnight. I awoke in the early hours and turned the heater up. Mind you, it was on 2 and I only moved it to 3, it's a very hot heater when on gas. It was a lovely morning when I got up at 0600. Took the dogs for a walk along the deserted back roads and then knocked up a good hearty breakfast. The gas kettle I use when on these sites must be favoured by the 'refelecto-porn' community! What I did notice around this area ...

Balbirnie to Dunbar.

Night No 20/2018 staying in the van. Now at Dunbar C&CC Site, near the town of Dunbar. Had a surprisingly good stay yesterday at Balbirnie. I was really surprised that a site which is in an urban environment could still be so rewarding. I have a connection with Markinch, so I was familiar with the town, but the nearby facilities such as shops and take aways was a real bonus, but the main attraction for me is the proximity of Balbirnie Park, which is excellent for dog walking, and a very pleasant and open place to wander. For the first time ever on my trips, I even had a chinese takeaway which was excellent! Got up around 0645, and after a quick coffee, took the dogs a short walk round Balbirnie. It was a fine morning and still fairly mild. After breakfast, we went a longer walk. This park is famous for Rhododendron and its easy to see why. There are some huge and colourful specimens. Crossed from the park to another walk on a hill near where I used to live on Manse Rd....
