Brora

This is night No 52/2019 living in my caravan. Now pitched at Brora C&MC Site near Dachalm, just outside the town of Brora. Thankfully, woke to a far better day today than last night. It was rain of biblical proportions last night, and what a racket in the van! Took the dogs for a 6am blast around the deserted Dunnet Bay. After breakfast, decided to take the short drive to Dunnet Head, the most northerly point on the mainland. The carpark was half full of foreign freeloaders. These motorhomes are becoming a total pain wherever you visit. The Germans seem to be particularly bad at this. The silver VW had what looked like a family of 4, and the van didn't look from the outside that it had a toilet. I have no doubt these folk are shitting and dumping their waste all over the place, as they is no where even remotely close to here to facilitate waste disposal. When I got to Brora, I even clocked one old git emptying his toilet tank in the public toilets. A defini...

Short Circular of Caithness

This is night No.51/2019 living in my caravan. It's our second night pitched at Dunnet Bay C&MC Site near Thurso. The weather was pretty bad overnight, not very windy but very wet. Thankfully, it had dried up a bit this morning as I got up and walked the dogs along the beach around 0630. Also took the opportunity to add a plaque to my collection! The nearby village of Castletown has a heritage walk, to celebrate it's history in Caithness Flagstone. These stones pave Edinburgh's Royal Mile, Dundee Discovery Point, and Sauchiehall St in Glasgow! It's best days are behind it, as the harbour was a rather derelict and scrapyard of a place. Old boats and cars just dumped on the verges. The Harbour is constructed of flagstones. Even the harbour wall. A zoomed shot across Dunnet Bay to where I'm staying. The only thing about Castletown is the football club. I passed their ground and noted it was formed in 1900. Just not sure about the...

Dunnet Bay

This is night No.50/2019 living in my caravan. Now pitched at Dunnet Bay C&MC Site, near Thurso on Caithness. It's so close to Dunnet Head that it's got to be one of the most northerly caravan sites in the UK mainland, although looking at the map, I reckon the one at Huna just outside John O Groats is probably further north by a few hundred metres. Had a good stay at Davochfin, and took the dogs for 2 walks around the woods next to the farm, 1 before breakfast, and 1 after! I like to try and get the dogs a good walk if its a travelling day. Left Davochfin around 1000 for the 2hr drive to Thurso and Dunnet Bay. Stopped for a walk at the wind farm at Achanarras. The wind was blowing strong and the turbines were tearing round. They make quite a racket when they're at full pelt. A distant Ben Klibreck (I think) behind these turbine. There are a lot of turbines between Thurso and Latheron. When I used to travel up here, there was a small farm, but there are lite...
