Reflections on my trip to Yellowcraig.

Image
I'm now back home after a short 3 day trip in my caravan. I stayed all the nights at Yellowcraig near North Berwick. I've been to Yellowcraig C&MC Site quite a few times, both with my campervan and my caravans. It's a site I like visiting. It's close to an outstanding beach, a good forest, and some longer trails which are all excellent for the dogs. I also took advantage of a club offer where pitch fees are discounted, midweek, by 50%. The site was quiet and more importantly Yellowcraig Beach was also quiet. This area can be heaving in the summer, particularly at weekends and most evenings when the weather is good. Even though I would rate the area as 'quiet' at the moment, is remains a haven for dog walkers and almost everyone you see or meet is out walking a dog. The site has recently opened for the season, and there were a fair number of pitches which were taped off to let the grass recover. Even after the layoff, the grass was badly affected in

This is night No.8/2019 living in my caravan. It's also my 3rd night at Yellowcraig C&MC Site near North Berwick. Got up around 0620 to grey, but dry weather. It had been very mild overnight and was very pleasant to take the dogs down the beach before breakfast and a shower. We went for another blast down the beach, then headed for a nearby woodland, about 15 mins away. The Woodland Trust is a great resource for finding woodland walks, and I chose Butterdean Wood near Gladsmuir. Never been here before. A nice mix of broadleaf and coniferous trees. Very quiet wood. Has a carpark and a couple of waymarked routes. A massive wood louse on a tree! Lots of quirky little touches. Thoroughly enjoyed this wood, and the weather was getting nice by this point. I've never visited the actual site of the Battle of Prestonpans, and with it being only 10mins from the woods, we took a detour to pay a visit. I have no idea what the 'authorities

This is night No. 7/2019 living in my caravan. It's also my second night at Yellowcraig C&MC Site near North Berwick. Got up around 0700 to dry but grey weather. Quite mild and very light winds. Took the dogs for a quick walk around the woods at Yellowcraig, then returned for a shower and some breakfast. Around mid morning, we took a walk down the beach. A distant Bass Rock. The Island of Fidra and its lighthouse. A zoomed shot looking east towards North Berwick and The Law. The whale jaw-bone was visible on the summit. Later in the morning, I wanted to visit Norham Castle which is virtually right on the English Border. I had read about it recently as this was where Edward I held court whilst arbitrating over the various claims to the Scottish throne. It was described as 'the most dangerous house in England' as it was constantly under attack from the Scots. It's a great looking ruin right on the bank of the Tweed. I've been in this area

This is night No. 6/2019 living in my caravan. We're pitched up at the Yellowcraig C&MC Site near Dirleton, just outside North Berwick. I'm taking advantage of a 'Club' offer at the moment, where the pitches have a 50% discount midweek. The total for 3 nights (including me, the van, power, and the mutts) was £34.05. I had a voucher for £10, so my total was £24.05 for the 3 nights. Outstanding! Being Spring, after conferring with my brother, it was probably not the time to embark on a huge tour, so a good option would be Yellowcraig for a few nights, and take it from there. I've been here many times in my camper vans, my Puck, and this Familia. I was last here 14th Oct 2018. It's a lovely site, right next to a stunning beach, and only 2.5 hours from home. The weather was very mild. This pair desperate to get out for a blast. After checking in, we took a walk down to the rather fine beach at Yellowcraig. It was lovely. Felt like June rather th

Reflections on my trip to Foyers, February 2019

My daughter pointed out to me that (when going by my posts) she can never really tell when my trips have ended and I have returned home. It's a reasonable observation, and for that reason I'm going to attempt to give a bit of a summary of the trips I do, or a 'reflection' on where I've been once I've returned home. I would rate this most recent trip to Foyers as 'excellent'. The weather was excellent, walking was great, and the area is as good as I remember it. The highlights? The walking is excellent straight from the site. I found a new route which I followed twice, that being the walk through the Mains of Foyers, through the forest, into Upper Foyers, and back to the site down past the Falls. I also walked many times in one of my favourite forests, Inverfarigaig. The weather was also superb, very mild for February and the first time in many years that I've toured so early. The site was also superb, and had a great welcome from Donald an
