The Isle of Raasay

The weather was forecast to be very nice today, and the forecast was absolutely spot on. Woke around 0630 where it was a reported -5C. The van was fine and warm, but the pipe from the water tank which connects to the van was frozen hence no tap water. The taps at the site service point were also frozen stuck! After walking the dogs, breakfast, and getting sorted out in general, we headed off for the 50min drive to Sconser on Skye to catch the 1025 Ferry to Raasay. The conditions were perfect for the short 20min crossing. Nice little terminal with a waiting room, toilets, and a carpark. Tickets for this crossing are purchased onboard. It was a nice, quiet ship. The weather for the crossing was stunning with fantastic views back to Skye. After disembarking, we headed the short drive past the main Island village of Inverarish to a car park which serves a great waymarked route around the Islands mining history, mining for Iron Ore. Great paths, not too hilly. This old mining building...

Night No 14/2018. Night No.2 at the Loch Greshornish site in Skye. Had a good sleep, and rose late at 0730! The weather was a bit grey and drizzly at first, improving a little later in the day. First walk of the day was along the lochside, then it was breakfast and a shower. The facilities here are very good, the showers are outstanding. All kept very clean and very modern. The site was fairly quiet last night, maybe around 10 other pitches occupied. The book claims it has 105 pitches, but I dont know where they are located, certainly doesn't look that big. For such a quiet site, it seems to have 5 wardens, but I get the feeling that 3 of them are probably working in return for free pitches. Decided that as the weather was forecast as wet, I'd spend a bit of time exploring Portree with the dogs. To be honest, in this weather, it's a fairly grim place. Nothing really special at all. The harbour is probably the nicest bit, but I couldn't really judge due to...

Loch Greshornish, Skye.

This is night No.13/2018 staying away in the van. Now at Loch Greshornish, near Edinbane, on the Isle of Skye. £29.50 for me, the vam, 2 mutts (free), and power. You pay for power seperately at Camping and Caravanning Club sites. If I'd known the weather would be this good, I'd have brought my solar panel! Woke around 0615 and it was looking like a good day. We walked along the River Croe next to the site, the standard, morning dog walk, and after breakfast, we walked up the woods at the entrance to Inverinate. A good walk. Noticed a dead ferral goat. There's a first! I'd booked Skye last night. I'd been here before, one night a few years ago in my campervan. What's quite special about this place (for me) is that it is one of the only places in the north of Skye where you can let a dog run free. The reamainder of the island has sheep everywhere, but this site has a large enclosed moor where dogs can run free. Packed up and left the site arou...
